New Metro Plus Opens in Lachine

Montréal, February 27, 2020 – Marie-Josée Bernard, owner of Metro Plus Lachine, proudly opened her brand-new store last night at 2425 Remembrance Street in Lachine. Building this 39,000 ft2 grocery store required six months of work and an $8.3 million investment.

The new Metro Plus was designed to provide customers with an optimal shopping experience and give products the importance they deserve. It showcases all the freshness, product diversity and service quality that have been the cornerstone of Metro outlets’ renown for over 70 years. This project will create 125 new jobs in the sector and strengthen the community’s economic health.

Several members of Metro’s management team attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the evening of February 26 alongside regional officials, including Ms. Maja Vodanovic, mayor of the Lachine borough.

To promote the reuse of shopping bags, customers will be able to get free reusable bags with their purchases during opening week. This store will not provide single-use plastic shopping bags, as part of METRO’s plan to reduce the number of single-use plastic shopping bags in its food and pharmacy banners by 50% by the end of fiscal year 2023.

Fresher and more complete
Freshness, one of Metro’s top priorities, is omnipresent inside the store. The impressive produce department features local and seasonal products, as well as fresh-cut fruit, smoothies and flavoured waters, along with a vegan section that offers a multitude of alternative products. Just a few feet away is an impressive and enticing selection of bulk products. In addition, the bakery has a wide variety of artisanal local products featuring renowned Quebec company, Première Moisson.

Over a hundred ready-to-eat meals prepared by on-site chefs using fresh products are available every day in the “Fresh to Go” aisle. The food market also includes an Aki Sushi and an Aki Thai counter offering a selection of delicious high-end sushi, as well as Thai dishes prepared in store. Customers will also be able to enjoy tasty pizzas that are prepared and baked on-site, and an antipasta bar overflowing with freshness. All these hot and cold prepared foods can be eaten in the store’s bistro corner, which can accommodate about ten people.

In the butcher’s department, professional teams prepare cuts to order, suggest products, and offer tips to prepare and cook meats perfectly. A wide variety is available, including smoked, organic, ready-to-cook and game meats. At the fish counter, which includes a fish smoker, you’ll find a professional team busy providing advice and preparing a wide range of fresh and delicious seafood products.

To satisfy all tastes and even better meet the needs of families on the lookout for the latest food trends, a greater variety of local, ethnic, gluten-free and organic products are featured in the various departments of Metro Plus Lachine. A full selection of artisanal beers, microbrews, fine cheeses and larger value pack products has also been added. In addition to outstanding customer service in all departments, customers will be able to pay for their purchases at one of the six self-serve checkouts. Soon, two double electric vehicle charging stations will also be available to customers.

Marie-Josée Bernard and her 125 employees are very proud of their new location and look forward to welcoming local and regional shoppers.
