AGRICULTURE - The Center of Excellence in Integrated Pest Management (PELI) at the Jardins-de-Napierville Local Development Center (CLD) has won the Hélène-Alarie Award in the Environment category at the annual Union des producteurs gala (UPA), December 4, at the Quebec City Convention Center.
The PELI received its award from Frédéric Krikorian, Vice President, Sustainable Development, Public and Government Affairs at Énergir, for his Agrobonsens campaign.
Agrobonsens, is a directory aimed at making known and recognized alternative techniques to pesticides and the producers who put them into practice.
Hosted by Chantale Lamarre, this gala highlighted collective actions by agricultural producers with four awards of excellence. The Hélène-Alarie Award recognizes a team that has conducted a project aimed at adopting new agri-environmental practices, climate change adaptation, or projects for sustainable agriculture and forestry.
In front of some 800 guests, Jocelyn Leclair, president of PELI, delivered a poignant speech of thanks. He said he is proud of the work he has done since 2012 and has promised that "he and the other PELI producers will continue to innovate."
The PELI was well represented to receive this honor, with Isabelle Matteau, its coordinator and the research officer, Nicolas Chatel-Launay, as well as five members of the steering committee: Stéphane Bisaillon, Jérémie Letellier, Normand Legault and Jean-Claude Guérin and Eric Van Winden.
"This recognition is a regional pride for the Jardins-de-Napierville RCM," said Michel Charbonneau, Executive Director of the CLD. This project has always been important to us for our region, for our producers. This award recognizes the efforts of the CLD team over the years and I am proud of the path we have collectively traveled. "
Mr. Charbonneau took the opportunity to thank the Jardins-de-Napierville RCM, the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Quebec Market Gardeners Association for having believed in the PELI mission. and to have supported it since its creation.
