What is our industry’s economic impact on Quebec?

A first for the QPMA!

What is our industry’s economic impact on Quebec?

Find out at the 2017 Annual QPMA Convention

On Friday, August 18, at the Annual General Meeting of QPMA membership, we’ll finally learn what the economic contribution of our produce sector makes to Quebec.

A few months ago, the QPMA executive committee commissioned the firm Aviseo to conduct this study. Its main themes are:

  1. Identify economic, consumer, and technological trends influencing our sector.
  2. Estimate correlations between fruit and vegetable consumption and healthcare costs.
  3. Analyze the direct and indirect impact of the produce sector as a whole.

This economic profile includes, among other things, a running total of producers in Quebec, ranked by size, as well as the number distributors and wholesalers, in order to confirm the extent of QPMA penetration in terms of membership. The study will also provide a profile of fruit and vegetable consumption in Quebec, and a profile of produce exports and imports.

An analysis of direct impact – in jobs and tax revenue, for example – is also on the menu.

One of the aims of the study is to highlight our sector’s structural effects. To do so, the authors analyze the produce industry’s positioning in Quebec in relation to the agrifood sector. They estimate its impact both on Quebec’s trade balance and on the shopping habits of Quebecers.

One aspect that should prove especially interesting relates to economic, social, and technological trends. For any QPMA business member, these are fundamental questions to consider when attempting future projections. The study will certainly help our members on this score.

Last but by no means least, one of the study’s boldest aspects is its approach to the correlation between fruit and vegetable consumption and healthcare costs.

On August 18, be among the first to discover the findings of an important study that’s been done especially for you!
