Market gardening industry round table of October 29, 2018

On October 29, representatives of MAPAQ (the Quebec ministry of agriculture, fisheries and food), retailers, producers, and vegetable production organizations met for the annual meeting of the Table de la filière des productions maraîchères (market gardening industry round table). The meeting was moderated by QPMA CEO and president Sophie Perreault, accompanied by Marie de Tarlé, QPMA executive assistant and public affairs.

After reviewing the last report on the cultivation and marketing of grower harvest past season, members of the round table adopted the strategic plan for the market garden industry and the priority actions for 2018-2019, elected Jocelyn St-Denis of the Association des producteurs maraîchers du Québec (APMQ) as the new chair of the round table, and Yourianne Plante of the Association des producteurs de fraises et framboises du Québec (APFFQ) as the new vice-president.

They then followed up on a number of files, including:

  • The creation of two innovation funds for field and greenhouse vegetables
  • The results of activities to identify the locations of Quebec-grown fruits and vegetables in store, and to better highlight their value and improve access to them
  • The pilot project for discount coupons on fruits and vegetables
  • The 2018-2019 provincial workforce strategy
